# Export the data room

Download everything you have access to in a data room as one ZIP file, for example before the project ends.

You can download all the files and folders you have access to as one ZIP file. Do this before a data room is closed, since the data is deleted afterwards.

## Before you start

The export includes the files you can both view and download. Files you can only view are left out. See [How access works](/users-and-access.md).

## Export

1. In the left menu, under **Other**, open **Exports**.
2. Under **Export files**, choose your options:
   * **Create folder for all resolved requests:** puts the files that answer each request in a folder named after the request.
   * **Include index in file names:** adds each item's number to its file name, so the order is kept.
3. Select **Export data room macOS** or **Export data room Windows**, depending on your computer.

The Windows export shortens long file and folder names, so the ZIP file unpacks without errors on Windows.

The ZIP file also has an **Attachments** folder with the attachments from Q\&A, one folder per question.

Large data rooms take time to prepare. If the export isn't ready after a few minutes, Dillien tells you to try again later.

## Watermarked files

If files are watermarked, the exported copies are too. File types that can't carry a watermark are included without one. See [Download files](/files-and-requests/download-files.md#watermarked-files).

## Troubleshooting

| Message                                             | What it means                                                      |
| --------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| *Nothing to export*                                 | You don't have both **View** and **Download** access to any files. |
| *This data room has no files or folders to export.* | The data room is empty.                                            |
